PUDUCHERRY: President of the Christian Munnetra Kazhagam (CMK) S.Joseph Fernando on Monday urged the Central government to take steps to get back Katchativu Island from Sri Lanka. He told reporters here that it had become a recurring phenomenon that fishermen belonging to Tamil Nadu had been shot at and harassed by the Sri Lankan Navy while fishing in the Palk Straits. both the DMK government and the UPA government had failed to resort to preventive measures. As the Sri Lankan Navy’s action around Katchativu had resulted in loss of lives and livelihood of the fishermen, the Indian government should be asked to retrieve the island, he said.
