Head constable injured

VIRUDHUNAGAR: Thangapillai, a Head Constable, was injured in stone pelting when a group of men tried to prevent people belonging to another caste from entering a street at Kaloorani near here on Sunday night.

Thangapillai has been admitted to the Government hospital at Aruppukottai. Police said that both caste Hindus and Arundathiyars used to celebrate the Panguni festival simultaneously.

However, this year, the caste Hindus denied permission for Arundathiyars to enter the temple or their festival procession wade through their street. Officials allowed the procession with police protection.
