This Day That Age
Pandit G.B. Pant, Union Home Minister, inaugurating the excavations for the proposed 425-mile Rajasthan Canal at Talwara Jhil on March 30, called upon the people to rise above petty parochial and linguistic considerations and work for the all-round progress of the country. The proposed canal, he said, would be fed by the Punjab rivers Sutlej and Beas, and if the people of the Punjab refused to accommodate their brethren in Rajasthan because they belonged to another region no development of the country could be conceived. Nobody who fostered separatist tendencies would be worthy of the benefits achieved through united efforts. The proposed canal would benefit the people of Rajasthan and also others in the neighbouring States.
