Wipro’s new facility

CHENNAI: Wipro Technologies on Monday decided to expand its Chennai operations by setting up a new facility spread over 80 acres at the Sholinganallur ELCOT Special Economic Zone (SEZ). At present, the existing facility was housed on 20 acres adjacent to the SEZ. The company has also invested at the Mahindra city SEZ on 90 acres.

Addressing a press conference here on Monday, President (Enterprise Solutions) Sudip Banerjee said the Sholinganallur-ELCOT SEZ facility, once fully operational, would accommodate nearly 35,000 people.

At present, the centre had over 2,500 employees. It planned to recruit 5,000 to 7,000 employees every year in next three years.

The Vice-President and Chennai centre head, Chandrasekhar Dharuman, Wipro Technologies, said the company would be adding another six lakh sq. ft. here.
