KBA announces season calendar

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Kerala Basketball Association (KBA) will conduct all its three age-group inter-district competitions in April, according to its calendar for the coming season.

The activities of the KBA will kick-start with the 35th State sub-junior championship to be held at the Sacred Heart Higher Secondary School, Thevara, Kochi, on April 2. The quarterfinals of this tournament will be held on April 4, the semifinals on April 5 and the final on April 6.

The 32nd State junior championship will be held at the Municipal ground in Alappuzha from April 12 to 17 and the State youth championship will be conducted at the Mary Giri HSS, Sreekantapuram, Kannur, from April 25 to 30.

The groupings for the sub-junior event are as follows:

Boys: Group A: Ernakulam, Kannur, Palakkad. Group B: Pathanamthitta, Malappuram, Kasaragod. Group C: Thiruvananthapuram, Thrissur, Kozhikode, Idukki. Group D: Kottayam, Alappuzha, Kollam, Wayanad.

Girls: Group A: Kannur, Kollam, Palakkad. Group B: Malappuram, Kottayam, Pathanamthita. Group C: Thrissur, Ernakulam, Kasaragod. Group D: Kozhikode, Alappuzha, Thiruvananthapuram.

Tellicherry wins

Tellicherry CC won the Euro Steel Kannur District ‘A’ division cricket league, beating Priyadershini by five wickets in Thalassery on Monday.

The scores: Priyadershini 139 in 29.2 overs (Akshay Chandran five for 37, P.V. Sirajuddin four for 20) lost to Tellicherry CC 130 for five in 31 overs (Faiz Haroon 47 n.o.).

Easy for Seaside

Seaside made short work of Independence Buds 3-0 in the Videocon Kozhikode District ‘A’ division football league here on Monday. Pradeep, Rajeesh and Saneesh netted the goals.

Earlier, KTC beat Farook College 1-0, with Rafeeq doing the scoring. In the day’s other match, Universal drew with Young Challengers 1-1. Finzer (Universal) and Rahul (Challengers) were the scorers.

Easy for top seeds

Top seeds had it easy in the first round of the AITA junior national talent series tennis tournament at the TTC courts in Thiruvananthapuram on Monday.
