National camp gets underway

BANGALORE: The Indian hockey camp for the four Nation championship scheduled to be held Down Under (at Perth and Darwin) from April 24 and later for the Azlan Shah Trophy tournament in Malaysia (from May 8) began at the SAI (South) centre here on Monday.

According to the chief coach Joaquim Carvalho, the team for the tour will be finalised by the second week of April and he said that a majority of the 40-odd probables called for the camp, have already reported on day one.

The camp assumes larger significance in the light of the Indian debacle in Olympic qualifying tournament in Chile and the team management here is determined to pick a squad that can redeem lost prestige. The camp is expected to conclude on April 18.
