Thiruvananthapuram: City Police Commissioner Ravada Azad Chandrasekhar has ordered an inquiry into the allegation that members of the police anti-goonda squad had manhandled a 29-year-old suspect at the time of his arrest on Thursday night. Mr. Ravada said Deputy Commissioner of Police, Somanatha Pillai, will investigate the allegation that members of the anti-goonda squad headed by Assistant Commissioner of Police E. Sherifudeen had beaten crime case suspect Ratheesh, a resident of Pachalloor, with a cloth covered brick. Ratheesh, who has sustained bruises all over his body, is under treatment at the General Hospital here. The Commissioner said the police had raided Ratheesh’s house on the suspicion that he was peddling narcotic drugs. Ratheesh’s relatives prevented the police from searching the house. There was an arrest warrant pending against Ratheesh and they prevented the police from taking him into custody. A scuffle ensued in which three policemen sustained injuries. Ratheesh’s relatives alleged that a member of the squad had a score to settle with the youth. They said the police had foisted false charges on him at the behest of the policeman. They alleged the police team had also manhandled Ratheesh’s parents.
