Plea to give up plan

The MGR Nalpani Mandram has appealed to the Corporation to give up the plan to construct the integrated bus stand at Devadhanam since it would pollute the Cauvery. In a memorandum to the Collector, its founder secretary N. Ramakrishnan said consumer organisations and farmers associations had already expressed their apprehension over the proposal to protect the Cauvery.

The construction of the bus stand at Devadhanam would also affect irrigation and drinking water sources in Thanjavur, Nagapattinam, Tiruvarur, Pudukottai, Perambalur and Cuddalore and Karaikal districts. Instead of constructing a bus stand the authorities could set up a botanical park at Devadhanam to protect the Cauvery.
