Many houses in Puttenahalli flooded

Staff Reporter

Bangalore: Rainwater inundated many houses in low-lying areas, mainly those situated near storm water drain, in Puttenahalli area in J.P Nagar on Sunday night.

Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike officials blamed the flooding on construction of illegal structures such as shortcut paths across the drain by those residing in the area.

Illegal constructions at three locations, which had blocked free flow of water, were removed Monday morning using earthmovers. However, in some areas, ongoing civil works on storm water drain blocked flow of rain water as a result of which water entered the houses.

BBMP personnel removed branches of trees brought down by the rain in many localities of northern and eastern parts of the city.
