Mental agony

The Othakadai to Kottampatti stretch of Madurai-Tiruchi highway has become unworthy for vehicular traffic owing to four-laning works and pot holes, leading to traffic jams as well. The National Highways Authorities of India (NHAI) has taken little care to set right the poor road condition. Consequently passengers face mental agony since they could not reach their destinations in time. The NHAI authorities should expedite the work.

Pat for SBI

The ‘token system’ introduced by the State Bank of India, Main Branch, Madurai, for remittance and withdrawals is a good step for quick and efficient service to customers. Earlier, the customers had to stand in queue before the counters with tension. Now there is no tension, complaint and crowd. All they have to do is to get their token from the automatic machines and sit comfortably on the seats provided before counters looking at the board for their turn and counter number.

Lay road properly

The Bypass Road connecting Palanganatham with the Dindigul Highway was laid to regulate traffic and ease congestion in the city. But, unfortunately, due to a lethargic attitude on the part of the authorities, this road is left uncared for. If the encroachments on both sides are removed and the broad road metalled properly with visible road dividers and well illuminated, it can very well be turned into a four-lane road comparable to the ones in Singapore. Also, the bridge over the railway track near the TNSTC depot should be broadened to serve the increasing vehicular traffic.

Disorder near GRH

It is highly deplorable that there is uncontrollable traffic congestion in front of Government Rajaji Hospital throughout the day causing accidents. Inpatients, outpatients, visitors and doctors visit the hospital in large numbers. The barricades placed in the middle of the road should be immediately removed since making U-turn has become impossible. At the same time, police personnel should be posted there throughout the day to regulate the traffic.
