The service was stopped to rectify minor problems The train has started attracting foreign tourists BANGALORE: The Golden Chariot, Karnataka’s luxury train, will return on its journey across the famed places of tourist importance from April 7. After the first commercial run in the second week of March, the service was stopped to rectify some minor problems that were reported during the first run. Booking openSources in Tourism Department told The Hindu that the bookings for the train have been opened, and that all minor problems relating to the train had been rectified. “During the first commercial run, we had encountered some problems, which have been addressed now,” sources said. It is learnt that the luxury train would run for another two months after which a break of about two months would be given for servicing and maintenance of the coaches. “The two-month break will coincide with the onset of monsoon in the State when the tourist arrivals will decrease. We are thinking of starting the service from the second week of August, the date for which will be announced later,” sources added. BookingsJust into its first month, the luxury train has started attracting foreign tourists. A group of 30 travellers from the United States have booked their tickets for the week-long journey commencing from January 12, 2009. “We are expecting good bookings for journeys starting from September, as most international arrivals are recorded from that period. Many travel agents have evinced interest in blocking the tickets well in advance, which would be later sold to tourists,” sources said. Attracting touristsKarnataka State Tourism Development Corporation (KSTDC) spokesperson H.T. Ratnakar said: “With the luxury train touching Bangalore, Mysore, Hampi and Goa, the four strong brands in international market, we are hoping to attract more number of tourists onboard the Golden Chariot.”
