Staff Reporter

Bangalore: The Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) will operate Suvarna Peak Hour service from Tuesday to cater to the increasing demand for public transport during peak hours in the morning and evening.

Phases

According to a press release here on Monday, the services will be introduced in phases to cover all areas of the city with high potential traffic.

In the first phase, BMTC will operate the buses on 20 routes: from Kempegowda Bus Station to Kumaraswamy Layout, Sulthanpalya, Bhoopasandra, Kaval Byrasandra, R.K. Hegde Nagar, Jeevanbimanagar, Kuvempunagar, Yelanhanka 5th Phase, Kengeri Satellite Town, Padmanabhanagar, Avalahalli BDA Park, AGS Layout, Vivekanagar and Koramangala; from Shivajinagar Bus Station to Neelasandra, Kaval Byrasandra and Sulthanpalya; Vijayanagar to Jayanagar 9th Block; and Srinagar to Domlur.

The release said that the exterior colour makes these buses easily identifiable.

Limited stops

The buses will operate between 7.30 a.m. and 11 a.m. and from 4.30 p.m. to 8.30 p.m. The buses will have limited en route stops and the fares will be marginally more compared to the ordinary service. The number of passengers will be restricted to the seating capacity.

Since passes will not be allowed, BMTC will introduce a separate monthly Commuter Suvarna Pass in May, the release added.
