BANGALORE: Women’s Day celebrations at the Bangalore University witnessed the opening of a child care centre on the Jnana Bharati Campus by Vice-Chancellor H.A. Ranganath on Monday. Free serviceThe centre will cater to the children of university employees free of cost. On the special occasion, prizes were distributed to the winners of various competitions, which were organised by the Centre for Women’s Studies. EmpowermentWriter Devaki Jain, speaking on the occasion, termed the woman as the poorest person in the world. She also emphasised the need for both economic empowerment and social empowerment of women. Dr. Jain released Mahila Majalugalu, a book brought out by the centre. FocusShakuntala Katre, professor at the university and the prime mover of Bangalore University Women Employees’ Association, highlighted the mutli-tasking capabilities of women. Registrar Sanjay Vir Singh and Centre Director K.K. Seethamma were present.
