NEW DELHI: A young man and his friend have been arrested on charges of killing a 23-year-old woman who died of stab injuries in a South Delhi hospital over the weekend. Around 2-30 p.m. on Saturday, the police received information from Sahi Hospital that a young woman had been admitted there with stab injuries. The woman, identified as Shashi, succumbed to her injuries later in the evening. Investigations revealed that Shashi, who had been living with her sisters in Jaipur and had done an airhostess course, had come to the Capital in the early hours of Saturday along with her friends Ashish, Manoj and Savita and checked in to Central Guest House at Nizamuddin. Shashi was admitted to the hospital by the two accused Ashish and Manoj, both residents of Jaipur, who on realising that she would not survive tried to flee after abandoning their car near Hazrat Nizamuddin railway station. However, they were detained by the police. During interrogation, Ashish purportedly disclosed that he loved Shashi and had also proposed to her. However, she did not give her consent on the pretext that he was given to drinking and was unemployed. On March 28, Manoj, Ashish and Savita left Jaipur for Delhi in Ashish’s car and picked up Shashi at Bahrore on the way. Heated exchangeOn the fateful day, Ashish and Shashi had a heated exchange after the former expressed annoyance over her friendship with some other men, said Deputy Commissioner of Police (South Delhi) H.G.S. Dhaliwal. Ashish allegedly stabbed Shashi with a knife. Hearing her screams, Manoj rushed to their room and allegedly helped Ashish in washing the bloodstains and cleaning Shashi’s body to evade detection. The duo told the guest house staff that Shashi had sustained injuries from a fall in the bathroom and took her to the hospital where they claimed that she had tried to commit suicide.
