Last date for ration card stamping extended

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: The Delhi Government has extended the last date for stamping of ration cards for allowing families earning not more than Rs.1 lakh per annum to avail themselves of cheaper rations by another 15 days.

Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit said in the Delhi Assembly that the scheme for stamping of the cards was being extended on popular demand. However, she noted that there was a need for taking caution in the matter as the veracity of all the applications needs to be established. “People are filing affidavits, but we also need to conduct simultaneous enquiry to ensure that ineligible persons do not avail themselves of the scheme,” she said. As for the BPL ration cards, she said there was a limit to the number cards which can be issued by the Delhi Government as the Centre allocates the figure to each State and in Delhi’s case it is around 4 lakh.
