Minimum purchase limit for petrol

Staff Reporter

MALAPPURAM: Petrol bunks in Malappuram district will not sell petrol worth less than Rs.50 from Vishu. The District Petroleum Dealers Association has set April 15 as the deadline to implement its new minimum-purchase rule, which is likely to win the displeasure of thousands of bike users who buy petrol in small quantities.

C.P. Mohammed Kutty Haji and M.C. Pushparaj, district president and general secretary respectively of the Association, claimed that the loss petrol bunks incurred owing to increasing evaporation and power tariff was considerable. They said selling petrol in small quantities had been a problem for the bunks. The new move would help the bunks offset the loss they suffer, they said. Petrol bunks in Palakkad, Idukki, Thrissur, Kottayam and Pathanamthitta had already implemented the Rs.50-minimum regime.
