NEW DELHI: A Motor Accident Claims Tribunal (MACT) has awarded a compensation of Rs.13 lakh to the family of a person who had died after being hit by a motorcycle at the Inter-State Bus Terminus in North Delhi two years ago. In a recent order, MACT Judge Dilbagh Singh awarded the compensation to 32-year-old Sharmila, wife of the victim Ashok Kumar Dagar, and her daughter and son. Directing the National Insurance Company, which had insured the offending vehicle, to pay the compensation, the Judge said he was of the opinion that Dagar was killed due to the rash and negligent driving of the motorcyclist. Sharmila had claimed Rs.50 lakh as compensation in her petition filed on July 5, 2006. She had said her husband, who worked as an office assistant in a private West Delhi firm, was crossing the road at ISBT when motorcyclist Zuber Alam knocked him down on June 9, 2006. Dagar was taken to hospital where he was admitted with multiple injuries. He died three days later.
