Case against Naidu stayed

Legal Correspondent

HYDERABAD: The proceedings initiated against Telugu Desam Party president N. Chandrababu Naidu by G. Janardhana Reddy, MLC from Karnataka, in Rayadurg court have been stayed by Justice G. Bhavani Prasad of the High Court on Tuesday.

Mr. Janardhan Reddy, a business associate of Y. S. Jaganmohan Reddy, filed a case in the Rayadurg court in Anantapur district alleging that Mr. Naidu made defamatory statements against him pertaining to his mining activities.

After receiving summons from the Rayadurg court, Mr. Chandrababu Naidu filed the present petition to quash the complaint filed against him. He contended that the allegation that he made defamatory statements were baseless since he neither held a press conference nor issued a press release. Unverified publications in news papers could not be the basis for a criminal case. The judge stayed all further proceedings and issued notices.
