‘Create more jobs in rural areas’

GADAG: Magsaysay Award winner Rajendra Singh has called on officials to chalk out action plans to create jobs in rural areas. He was inaugurating the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (NREGS) at Nagavi village in Gadag taluk on Tuesday.

Mr. Singh said that there were about 2.5 crore youth who were unemployed. The officials should prepare action plans for removal of silt from tanks and construction of check dams, which would provide work to more people in rural areas, he said. Earlier, Mr. Singh inaugurated watershed development works estimated at Rs. 33.80 lakh..
