Coimbatore: Moving away from the glamour of the film world to the ideology of Marxism, the 16-year-old son of noted filmmaker Mani Ratnam has created a buzz by serving as a Red Volunteer at the 19th All India Congress of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) under way here.

Nandan Mani Ratnam, son of Mani Ratnam and popular actor Suhasini, is also the author of a new 27-page pamphlet on Leninism, titled Contours of Leninism. It has articles under five headings — Theory, Marxism, Democratic dictatorship, Materialism and Vanguard. It is on sale at the venue, along with other Left literature.

He told mediapersons he was impressed by Marxism because it was the “most cogent, comprehensive and highly developed complex of theory and practice.”

Nandan Mani Ratnam said he had not yet thought of how his parents saw his leanings towards Marxism. The Class XI student said his reading habit introduced him to the world of Marxism.

Studying in an international residential school in Chennai, Nandan came here on his own to serve as a volunteer. He has been assisting foreign delegates at the Congress.

The young man has not decided on his future plans, including about joining a party such as the CPI(M). — PTI
