KOCHI: The management of Bhavans schools has reiterated that the proposed 30 per cent hike in school fee will not be sufficient to meet the additional expenses on account of several factors, including the proposed hike in payment to teachers. A communication from N. Sreekumar, secretary, Bhavans schools, and its registrar E. Ramankutty here on Tuesday said that about Rs.5 crore worth of development works were going on at the various schools under the Kochi centre. A new block was being erected at the Elamakkara school at a cost of Rs.2 crore, said the statement. The school bus service was being subsidised on account of which the schools suffered a loss of Rs.12 lakh a year, the statement said. The school management spends Rs.27 lakh yearly for providing counselling to students who have learning disabilities. This was being done as part of the social responsibility of the schools, the statement said. The parents association was spreading wrong information about the fee rates and that the account statements the association had issued was not true and factual, the statement said.
