KOCHI: The corporation has spent 85.26 per cent of the Plan fund allotted to it during the financial year that ended on Monday. While the civic body achieved 100 per cent spending in the general category, it could spend only 48 per cent in the Special Component Plan for the Scheduled Castes members. The general category includes sectors like transport, maintenance, social welfare and women welfare. However, the unspent amount would not lapse, as it would be carried over to the projects that were to be implemented during the next fiscal, said Mercy Williams, Kochi Mayor. The corporation could also achieve 100 per cent spending in the social welfare sector that covered welfare and support schemes for children and disabled persons. Loan repayment
The corporation paid Rs.90 lakh, the principal component of the loan it had raised from the Kerala Urban and Rural Development Finance Corporation. The Urban Local Body share of the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission was also paid from the Plan fund. The civic body also utilised a share of the Plan fund for the purchase of 2.5 acres of land from the Greater Cochin Development Authority, said Mini Antony, secretary of the corporation.
