BHUBANESWAR: On Tuesday evening when the people of Orissa were celebrating Utkal Dibas, the foundation day of the State, with excitement, a poet and a painter resolved to celebrate the day with a difference. And the result was the unique experiment of convergence of their creativity. Poet Ajay Swain and painter Baladeb Maharatha - both friends and known names in Orissa - put up a ‘jugalbandi’ of their respective art at the Orissa Modern art Gallery here much to the excitement and cheer of the gathering of artists and connoisseurs of the city. As Swain, known for his romanticism, went on reciting his favourite poem ‘aepate kadamba, sepate katuala’ that depicted the moments of light and shade in human life, ace artist Maharatha waved his brush on the canvas giving birth to a brilliant painting portraying the sentiments of the poet. “The show lasted for less than an hour but it left all of us in a State of trance for several hours,” remarked several onlookers. “We can realise that a bond exists among all forms of expressive arts,” added others.
