Forensic medicine has advanced very much in pace with the modern trends and developments in the scientific field. Newer methods of DNA analysis have been developed. Computerised superimposition and 3D facial reconstruction are replacing the old techniques of photographic superimposition and plastic reconstruction of face. Epoch making brain finger printing is opening new avenues in scientific criminal interrogation. Imaging techniques contribute liberally to forensic medic ine. Virtual autopsy employing latest imaging techniques will replace conventional autopsy techniques in the near future. These are some of the points noted by B. Umadethan, former professor and head of the department of Forensic Medicine and Police Surgeon, attached to the Medical colleges of Thiruvananthapuram, Alappuzha and Thrissur. Dr. Umadethan has brought out a tome running to nearly thousand pages and detailing the various aspects of forensic medicine through its 51 chapters. The book is being published by Swami Law House of Kochi and has a foreword by Chief Justice of India K.G. Balakrishnan. Dr. Umadethan has taken pains to include recent advances and modern trends in forensic medicine and allied specialities in the present work. The book contains a large volume of modern forensic literature.
