Gales damage banana, maize crops

VIZIANAGARAM: Strong gales accompanied by rain due to low pressure over coastal districts during the last four days has caused extensive damage to banana plantation and maize crop in Salur, Pachipenta, Makkuva and Komarada mandals in the district. Agriculture and Horticulture officials, quoting preliminary reports received here, said on Wednesday that maize in an extent of 841 hectares out of 8,786 hectares sown during the rabi season and banana plantation in 1,600 hectare were damaged.
