Rice scheme to be launched on April 9

VIZIANAGARAM: District Collector B. Kishore has said the Rs.2-a-kg rice scheme will be launched formally in the district on April 9. At a meeting with the district civil supplies and Revenue officials, the Collector said the distribution of rice would be from 7 am onwards and the process would be completed in three to four days. Already rice was being stacked at all the MLS points in each mandal.
District Supply Officer S.A. Narasimha Murty said 5,87,503 BPL families would be benefited under the scheme. The financial burden on the state exchequer is estimated to be about Rs. 5 crores per month.
He said 9,360 MT of rice was needed every month for distribution through 1,301 FP fair price shops among 5,35,644 white ration cardholders and 51,859 Antyodaya Anna Yojana beneficiaries. Each person of a family would get 4 kgs of rice with a maximum of 20 kgs per ration card and 35 kgs for AAY beneficiary. He said already 1,227 FP shop dealers were issued release orders. Of them, 386 dealers had so far lifted 2,240 MT of rice and stacked at the MLS points, he added.
