Kakinada: Sixteen Christian and four Hindu couples entered the wedlock in a programme of mass marriages conducted here on Wednesday by Kakinada-based service organization ‘Missions to The Nations’.
Participating as the chief guest, Union Minister of State for Defence and Kakinada MP MM Pallam Raju appreciated the organisers and hoped more such events would be held the welfare of poor.
Inspiration
He said the efforts of Missions to The Nations were laudable as it appeared to have drawn inspiration from Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam’s ‘Kalyanamastu’ programme.
District Collector Gopalakrishna Dwivedi said the marriages were conducted as per the traditions to which the couples belong and described the concept was a good example of communal amity.
Missions to The Nations President Y Papa Rao said besides making arrangements for the marriages, furniture and other material were distributed.
MLC N Sesha Reddy, Agricultural Market Committee Chairperson N Radha and others were present.
