CUTTACK: The city police on Wednesday arrested and produced in court a 35-year-old person on the charge of sexually assaulting three minor girls. The court remanded him to jail custody later in the day after rejecting bail. “Sanjay Jena alias Dunga of Pithapur locality of the city was arrested from Bidyadharpur area in the eastern limits of the city under Section 376, 377 and 354 of IPC. After conducting a medical test on him and from preliminary investigations, we have gathered certain prima facie evidences against him,” said the Purighat police inspector A.K. Mandal. The case against the accused person was registered on Monday following complaints filed by father of one of the victims. The girls, who are cousins and aged between five to eleven years, were allegedly assaulted by Dunga. Medical tests on the girls were conducted on Monday. The accused person, a brother of a police driver, was absconding ever since the case was registered against him. Women groups and voluntary organisations staged massive demonstrations on Tuesday demanding immediate arrest of the accused. Following this, the Purighat police driver was transferred and the investigation officer was also changed. Dunga, however, after his arrest denied the charges levelled against him. He said due to certain family disputes, he was framed in the case by his own relatives. Dunga, a native of Jagatsinghpur district, was staying in his uncle’s house in the city.
