Prepare development work clusters in panchayats, says Collector

To identify work under National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme

THENI: Development work clusters must be prepared in each panchayat for execution under National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme. Minimum five work, each costing between Rs.10 lakh to Rs.15 lakh should be identified, advised the Collector, S.J. Chiru.

After inspecting a rural tank work identified under the Scheme at Nagamalai village here on Tuesday, he said that the development of new tanks and ponds, desilting of supply canals, laying soil roads and flood prevention works would be taken up under the scheme. The cost of each work should not be less than Rs.3 lakh. Job opportunities would be offered to persons aged above 18 years and willing to do physical work. They would get jobs for 100 days in a year. Free medical facilities would be offered to workers at the work spot in case of emergency.

Various development work were being implemented under NREGS at Attrankaraipatti, Ettayarajapuram, Gandamanur, Kadamalaigundu, Ponnanpadugai, Thangammalpuram and Murukodai villages in K. Mayiladumparai union, Dharmapuri, Kattunaickanpatti, Kuppinaickenpatti, Nagalapuram, Thadicherry and Thappugundu in Theni union and Eranampatti, Pottipuram, Pulikutthi, Sankarapuram, Veppapatti and Kamatchipuram villages in Chinnamanur union.

He also verified whether the names of workers were recorded in registers properly or not. Mr. Chiru gave away identity cards to 1,043 persons including 441 persons of which 210 men and 231 women at Thadichery village in Theni union and 602 persons including 333 women and 269 men at Kattunaickenpatti village.
