Water tax rates might be increased Voters list has been prepared Chitradurga: Deputy Commissioner Amlan Aditya Biswas has said that Chitradurga city will receive water from the Shanti Sagar project within a week, as all civil and technical issues have been dealt with. The ambitious project to provide drinking water to the city was approved in 2003 at an estimated outlay of Rs. 80 crore. Addressing presspersons here on Wednesday, Mr. Biswas said that except for supplying electricity to the pump house, all major aspects of the project had been taken care of. He refuted charges that he had been pressured by some influential people to delay the commissioning of the project. To a question, Mr. Biswas said the CMC would be asked to revise its water tax rates. He indicated that the tax would be increased, but the extent would be decided later. To a question on the installation of water meters, he said the idea might not work, but added that the idea was still open to debate. “At present, we are focussing on supplying water. The decision with regard to installation of meters will be taken later,” he added. With regard to the preparation of electoral rolls, he said the district administration had completed its job and was ready for the elections. He said the district had 11,57,144 voters which included 30,7014 new people.
