Financial assistance provided

NAMAKKAL: The banks in the district are providing liberal financial assistance to self help groups to take up income generation activities, said Collector G. Sundaramurthi.
Participating at a meeting here recently, the Collector said a sum of Rs. 5.78 crore was disbursed as bank loans to self-help groups and Rs. 1.96 lakh as credit linked subsidy under Swarnajayanti Gram Swarozgar Yojana in 2007-08.
The Salem District Central Co-operative Bank and the primary agriculture co-operative banks had given loans to a maximum number of 397 self help groups.
This was followed by the Indian Bank, Indian Overseas Bank, Canara Bank, Karur Vysya Bank and a farmers co-operative society in Pallipalayam.
Services
The Collector appreciated the services extended by these banks and presented shields to the bankers.
Reserve Bank of India Assistant General Manager M.Vijayakumar, National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development Assistant General Manager P. Jayakannan, Indian Bank Deputy General Manager R. Mahadevan, Lead District Manager T.R. Suresh, District Rural Development Agency Project Officer Renuga Devi, Mahalir Thittam Project Officer G. Muthumeenal and senior officials were present.
