Bangalore: Chairman of the Campaign Committee of the KPCC Siddaramaiah on Wednesday said that the party was confident of coming to power and would look into the problems of farmers who had taken loans from moneylenders. Chairing the first meeting of the committee, the former Deputy Chief Minister said the party could not help the small and marginal farmers as the State was under President’s Rule. He said four groups of senior leaders would be deputed to divisions for campaigning. A final decision would be taken after consulting S.M. Krishna and Manifesto Committee chairman C.K. Jaffer Sharief, he said. Mr. Siddaramaiah said a roadshow had been planned in the villages highlighting the achievements of the United Progressive Alliance Government and those under Congress rule in the State. Conventions for mobilising people from different strata of society, particularly the Dalits, OBCs and religious minorities as well as farmers and women would be held. Congress president Sonia Gandhi, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Rahul Gandhi, MP, would be invited to address the meetings. Mr. Siddaramaiah said that State Congress leaders would raise the Hogenakkal issue with the central leaders and also the Union Government. He said they would be requested to take up the issue with Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi. While supporting the protest by the Kannada organisations against the project, he appealed to them to keep it peaceful.
