Scuffle at Congress meet in Kolar

KOLAR: A meeting organised at Congress Bhavan here on Wednesday to elicit opinion on the possible party candidates to be fielded in the coming elections was marred by scuffle between supporters of rival factions.

The fight took place in the presence of KPCC observers K.H. Srinivas and R. Venkatesh.

A group, apparently comprising of supporters of the former MLA K. Srinivas Gowda, objected to the receiving of a memorandum submitted by supporters of zilla panchayat member Varthur Prakash at Kondarajanahalli. Earlier, the Prakash faction urged the observers to issue ticket to their leader.

The receipt of the memorandum at a place other than the party office reportedly irked Mr. Srinivas Gowda’s supporters.

However, district Congress president Bisse Gowda and the observers were able to pacify the warring groups.

Later, addressing a press conference Mr. Srinivas justified acceptance of the memorandum. “We will submit all the applications of aspirants to the KPCC, and it is the party high command that will decide on who should get the ticket,” he said.
