JBIC team visits Krishnagiri GH

Three-pronged strategy to control fluorosis envisaged To start with, health experts will organise training for medical officers
Krishnagiri: A four-member team from the Japan Bank of International Cooperation (JBIC) visited the Krishnagiri Government Hospital on Wednesday and interacted with people affected with dental and skeletal fluorosis.
The team led by Eri Nakamura country officer, JBIC, Koichi Kono from Osaka Medical University, Masashi Shimhara and Hiroyasu Shimizu also visited the Shoolagiri block health centre and stressed on a comprehensive fluorosis mitigation programme.
With the local population heavily affected with fluoride, officials from the Department of Health would be involved to create effective public awareness programmes focusing on the hazardous effect of fluoride. The project also envisages the implementation of a three-pronged strategy to control and prevent fluorosis.
The team members also discussed on the implementation of the health component, school education component and community component to tackle the problem of fluorosis in both the districts.
To start with health experts will organise training for medical officers and staff nurses of Primary Health Centres on prevention of fluorosis and usage of treated water supply.
The trainers will in turn train teachers in coordination with the Education Department.
