Kattappana: Anjuruli is poised to get a facelift with the inauguration of a Rs.3-crore tourism project by Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan on April 20. The project, to be implemented by Idukki district administration in association with the district panchayat and Kanchiyar grama panchayat, comprises a hanging bridge close to Anjuruli falls, trekking facilities in Valadupara and boating in the reservoir area. Elaborating on the project, Kanchiyar grama panchayat president Mathew George said that a speed boat was purchased recently and the construction of the hanging bridge was underway. Road work overThe work on the roads leading to Anjuruli from Kakkattukada and Pallikavala has been completed. Another attraction for tourists is a ‘rock hut.’ A Forest Protection Council has been formed to guide tourists reaching Anjuruli. The project also aims at increasing facilities for water transportation in the area so that tourists reaching Thekkady and Ramakkalmedu from Thodupuzha will be benefited as it considerably reduces the journey time from Kulamavu to Idukki. FestivalA ten-day festival ‘Anjuruli Soundaryotsavom’ will be also be inaugurated on April 20. A ‘walk inside the tunnel to Erattayar,’ a stretch of 4.5 km, will be flagged off on the same day, he said.
