Weights and measures rule upheld

Staff Reporter

BANGALORE: The Karnataka High Court on Tuesday upheld a provision of weights and measures rules relating to complete display of manufacturing details of a product on the outer side of the package within which it is sealed.

The court, however, partly allowed a petition by Khaitan Electricals and quashed compounding notices issued to it by the Assistant Controller of Weights and Measures.

The department contended that all details of the manufacture of a product ought to be printed at one place. Khaitan said it packs the ceiling fans in two separate packages. It challenged the validity of Rule 6 (1) (a) of Standard Weights and Measures saying it is unconstitutional.
