Karnataka parties hail EC move

Special Correspondent

Bangalore: Political parties in Karnataka, including those that had opposed immediate Assembly elections on various grounds, have welcomed the decision of the Election Commission to hold three-phase elections, beginning on May 10.

The announcement has not triggered much enthusiasm as most parties have prepared themselves for polls ahead of the May 28 deadline.

Commission to visit

The full Election Commission, led by Chief Election Commissioner N. Gopalaswami, will be on a two-day trip to Bangalore from Friday to assess the ground situation and preparations for a peaceful poll.
