Addressing the Lok Sabha on April 1, Mr. K.D. Malaviya, Union Minister for Mines and Oil, confessed to “a deep sense of frustration” owing to his failure thus far to persuade the oil companies to reduce the price of petroleum products. He said that the negotiations were “not proceeding satisfactorily.” He, however, assured the House and the country that the Government would firmly pursue its efforts to get the prices reduced and expressed his conviction that the case for immediate reduction was “very strong and just.”
