This Day That Age
Mr. Ataur Rahman Khan, who was reinstated as Chief Minister of East Pakistan on April 1, after being out of office for 15 hours, won a vote of confidence from the State Assembly later in the day. Immediately after he was sworn along with nine Ministers of his former Awami-League coalition cabinet, Mr. Ataur Rahman Khan called a session of the Assembly. One hundred and eighty two members out of a total strength of 310 passed a resolution expressing “full-confidence in the Chief Minister. The resolution was moved by Sheikh Mujibar Rahman (Awami League). Only ten members present in the House remained neutral. The Speaker, Mr. Abdul Hakim, read out a proclamation of the acting Governor, Mr. Hamid Ali proroguing the Provincial Assembly. Mr. Ataur Rahman was dismissed last night by the former governor, Mr. Fazlul Huq on the ground that he had slender support in the Assembly.
