Congress criticises Tikait’s arrest
Special Correspondent
NEW DELHI: The Congress party on Wednesday described as “unfortunate and uncalled for” the use of “un-parliamentary language” used by farmer leader Mahendra Singh Tikait against Bahujan Samaj Party chief and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati at a rally in Bijnor in Uttar Pradesh two days ago. Party spokesman Manish Tewari said here that Mr. Tikait’s remarks were uncalled for.
“However, what the Mayawati government did was a case of overreaction. The proper thing would have been to register a case against him and let the law take its own course rather than storm the village as if he was a bandit on the run,” he said.
