Youngsters die in tragic circumstances

Idukki (Kerala): Two young lives were lost in Kerala in separate incidents on Tuesday — one while trying to enact a suicide scene she saw on television and the other in an accident that his friends mistook for an April fool prank.

In Pathanamthitta, an eight-year-old girl, enacting a suicide scene for her brother, went into a room and closed the door. When she failed to come out, Appu shouted for help. Neighbours broke open the door and found her hanging from a bar across the window, police said.

Aswin, a first year student of a private engineering college, had gone with his friends for a swim in the Malankara reservoir. Soon after he entered the waters, Aswin was seen struggling to stay afloat. His friends who watched him from the banks, mistook his cries for help for an April fool prank, police said. By the time they realised their mistake, it was too late. —PTI
