PANAJI: The Goa police have started preliminary investigations into the alleged rape of an Non-Resident Indian woman on March 7 at a five-star-hotel in the city. Inspector General of Police Kishan Kumar confirmed on Wednesday that the Goa police registered a rape case on Monday evening based on a complaint forwarded by the Delhi Police. According to the complaint, the 52-year-old woman was allegedly raped by an unknown male in the room of the hotel on March 7. Mr. Kumar said that while they had started inquiries at the hotel, they were awaiting more information from the Delhi police who told them that after the complaint was lodged, the woman was not traceable at the given address. He said that according to the Delhi police, the complaint was lodged by the woman through a hospital in Delhi. A spokesperson of the hotel on Wednesday confirmed that the Goa police informed them about the complaint, but declined to comment arguing that it could hamper police investigations.
