Dubai: A group of Indian doctors employed with the Ministry of Health in Kuwait have alleged that despite working for many years, they have not got any promotion as their degrees are yet to be evaluated. They alleged that they had been working for the Ministry for over 10 years without having earned a single promotion, nor have they received much hike in salaries, said a media report. First Secretary at the Indian embassy in Kuwait V. Mahajan said they would take up the matter with the authorities concerned. Recently, 14 Indian doctors, who quit their jobs at the Ministry last month, had said the Ministry had refused to pay them their indemnities since their degrees had not been evaluated. The doctors claimed that the Ministry of Higher Education had stopped the practice of evaluation since 2002 after an Indian doctor’s degree was found fraudulent. What has baffled many Indian medics is the fact that the said doctor was hired by Kuwait’s Ministry of Health as a consultant from India some six years ago, the Arab Times reported. Soon after the Ministry received a complaint against the accused, a committee was formed by it to authenticate his credentials. Upon evaluating his qualifications, the Ministry found that the doctor had a Masters Degree and not PhD as claimed by him. — PTI
