NEW DELHI: Fitness India Trust for Sports Medicine Applied Research and Training, an NGO working in the field of sports and fitness, has launched a booklet, ‘sports medicine passport’, a health and fitness profile diary for the benefit of sportspersons and fitness enthusiasts. The ‘passport’ has been conceived by Dr. P.S.M. Chandran, Director (Sports Medicine), Sports Authority of India (SAI). Dr. Chandran said on Tuesday that though data on Indian sportspersons used to be gathered occasionally, it was often found that such information was not available for later reference. “Sports medicine passport has been brought out to overcome this problem,” he said. The ‘passport’ is a directory of 400 tests and measurements. It also provides information on 500 doctors, physiotherapists and scientists all over India who are working in the field of sports and fitness. It lists prohibited drugs under the World Anti Doping Agency (WADA) and provides information on accredited laboratories. The SAI will be making use of the ‘sports medicine passport’ to monitor the medical, health and fitness profiles of the probables for the 2010 Commonwealth Games.
