Bengal, Saurashtra in last four

VISAKHAPATNAM: Quick-fire centuries by Laxmi Ratan Shukla for Bengal and J.N. Shah for Saurashtra marked their team’s entry into the semifinals of the Vijay Hazare Trophy tournament on Wednesday.

Bengal beat Delhi by 48 runs while Saurashtra scored a seven-wicket win over Karnataka.

Shukla 124 (95b, 16x4, 2x6) added 117 runs for the fourth wicket with A. Mazumdar (36). Later, quick scoring by D. Das (40 n.o., 29b, 3x4, 1x6) and S. Lahari (40, 7x4) helped Bengal post 295 for five.

Delhi tried its best to match Bengal by scoring fast, but fell short by 48 runs. The most productive part of the innings was the 69-run stand for the sixth wicket between Virat Kohli (56, 56b, 1x4, 3x6) and P. Chawla (35, 49b, 3x4).

S. Dhawan contributed with a rapid 47 (34b, 9x4). Medium-pacer S.S. Paul claimed three wickets.

At the ACA-VDCA stadium, Saurashtra put Karnataka in. Robin Uthappa (50, 69b, 3x4), M. Pandey (45, 53b, 3x4, 1x6) and C. Raghu 41 (69b, 1x4) were the main contributors as the team posted 234 for nine.

Shah’s century, comprising five sixes and 10 boundaries, ensured a seven-wicket win for Saurashtra.

The scores: Bengal 295 for five in 47 overs (Laxmi Ratan Shukla 124, D. Das 40 n.o., S. Lahari 40) bt Delhi 247 in 43.4 overs (Virat Kohli 56, S. Dhawan 47).

Karnataka 234 for nine in 50 overs (R. Uthappa 50, M. Pandey 45, C. Raghu 41) lost to Saurashtra 235 for three in 46.2 overs (J.N. Shah 100, C.R. Pathak 62).
