CHENNAI: Is it going to be déjÀ vu? The scene, sets and the characters are the same. The plot too is similar.

Just like Kollywood came together in 2002 to protest against the Karnataka government’s stance in the Cauvery water dispute, the Tamil film industry is gathering as a body again at the same venue, Chepauk, to express solidarity with Tamil Nadu on the Hogenakkal drinking water project issue.

While actor Sarath Kumar, on behalf of the Tamil Film Producers’ Council, insisted that all actors, producers, directors, in fact everyone involved in the industry will turn up at Chepauk on Friday, the buzz nevertheless continued over whether the ‘big ones’ will be present, especially in the context that some of them were out of town.

The protest will be on from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Later in the day, however, the grapevine buzzed with whispers about Superstar Rajnikanth coming back to town and join in forefront.

‘Ulaga Nayagan’ Kamal Hassan has reportedly cancelled his shooting schedule abroad (for his next film) to join hands with his fraternity. Sources also add that because he is flying home, he will join the protest in the afternoon. Captain Vijayakanth also promises to be there.

Star gazing

It remains to be seen whether this event will be as big as the last one. For film buffs, however, it is going to be yet another great opportunity for star gazing.
