The City Station has 41 surveillance cameras Coach guidance system to be introduced in phased manner Bangalore: To monitor and control the anti-social activities at the Yeshwantpur railway station, the South Western Railway has installed 10 CCTV cameras. The IP-based surveillance system can be monitored from a central location. Inaugurating the surveillance system, coach guidance system and GPS drum clocks at the Bangalore City Railway Station on Tuesday, Mahesh Mangal, Divisional Railway Manager, Bangalore Division, said the surveillance system at the City Station had been installed two years ago. “We have 41 cameras in the City Station. We will increase the number of cameras at Yeshwantpur to 20 soon.” The system has been put in place at a cost of Rs. 19 lakh. Mr. Mangal said that with Yeshwantpur being the second coaching terminal for Bangalore division, a large number of trains originate and terminate from there. “When this is the case, we need such measures to ensure proper security arrangements are in place,” he said. He said the system would be introduced in the border stations. “We will take it up next in Cantonment and K.R. Puram railway stations. The monitoring is done by the Railway Protection Force. We will be able to implement it in the other stations by this year end.” The coach guidance system is being introduced in the station in a phased manner. “With the introduction of the coach guidance system, passengers will be able to locate a particular reserved coach on a platform. All platforms will have the coach guidance boards and arrival/departure boards. We have spent about Rs. 1 crore on this,” he said. He said that 60 drum clocks that display time on both sides would be put up on all platforms at the City, Cantonment and Yeshwantpur railway stations. “These clocks are GPS-based, which are as per standard international design. They have the facility of updating and correcting the time. These clocks will be installed by the month-end,” he added.
