THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kerala Tourism and Cochin Port Trust’s (CPT) web site of the Indian stopover of Volvo Ocean Race at Kochi from December 3 to 13 was launched at a function here on Wednesday. The web site (volvoracecochin.com) was launched by Chairman of Kerala Tourism Development Corporaton Cherian Philip at a function attended by Chairman of the CPT N. Ramachandran, Secretary, Kerala Tourism, V. Venu and Managing Director of KTDC K.G. Mohanlal. Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Ramachandran said it is for the first time in the 35-year history of the Race that an Indian port has been chosen for the stopover. Seven teams had already confirmed their participation. The race will commence in October from Alicante in Spain and will cover more than 38,000 nautical miles visiting 11 ports across the world before reaching St. Petersburg. Jointly hosted by the CPT and Kerala Tourism, the event will also attract hundreds of other luxury yachts and sailing vessels of different depiction.
