‘Produce missing girls by April 21’
Staff Reporter
NEW DELHI: The Delhi High Court has directed the Delhi police to produce before it two young girls who have been missing from Uttam Nagar in West Delhi since December 2007.
A Division Bench of the Court comprising Justice Vikramjit Sen and Justice P. K. Bhasin issued the direction on a habeas corpus petition by Salma Bano, the mother of the two missing girls.
The Bench directed the city police to produce the two girls, the elder one of 16 years and the younger of 4 years, before it by April 21.
The petitioner submitted that her daughters had gone missing on December 12 last year. She alleged that she had information that her two daughters had been kidnapped by Gaurav, a local.
She submitted that the accused had married her elder daughter while there was no information about the younger daughter. She stated that the local police and higher officials had failed to take any measures to trace the girls. The local police had fulfilled the formalities by just registering a missing report.
She also alleged that the accused had been threatening her to withdraw the report.
