Kumble remains tight-lipped

Ahmedabad: Indian skipper Anil Kumble refused to reveal either the team combination or his observations on the wicket, ahead of the second Test.

“We will just have to wait to decide the combination. There are a couple of injury concerns. We will take a final call on Thursday morning, but whatever combination we have, we have the potential and the quality to do the job. We have worked out some plans to ensure that we put pressure on South Africa and hopefully get the right result,” said Kumble. He added that he was feeling much better. The captain had strained his groin in the first Test.

The decision on fast bowler Ishant Sharma, who suffered from a toe and index finger injury, would be taken on Thursday as well.

With the wicket in Chennai coming under scrutiny, he refused to comment on this track. “I don’t want to talk about the pitch because there are too many questions and too little answers. Let’s just wait.”

On South Africa’s tactics to deal with Virender Sehwag, he said, “he is a good enough batsman to handle such things. He scored 319 runs in his last innings and is capable of handling whatever comes his way.” — Sports Reporter
